By metro, tram and bus

The official site lists the U3 at Volkstheater, the U2 at Museumsquartier and trams 1, 2 and D at Dr.-Karl-Renner-Ring. Tourist buses stop at Burgring In/Out. Check timetables and fares with Wiener Linien.

On foot from the centre

In a straight line the Leopold Museum is about 240 m from the Kunsthistorisches Museum, 300 m from the Naturhistorisches Museum, 680 m from the Imperial Treasury, 720 m from the Albertina and 1.2 km from the Stephansdom. These are distances on the map, not walking times, which we have not measured.

From Vienna airport

From 7 September 2026 to 31 October 2027 the City Airport Train is replaced by buses to Wien Mitte / Landstraße, which take 21 minutes and connect to the U3 and U4. The Railjet and Intercity trains run non-stop to Wien Hauptbahnhof in about 15 minutes, twice an hour. The REX 7 takes about 20 minutes to the Hauptbahnhof.

Airport bus line 1 serves the Hauptbahnhof and Westbahnhof in about 40 minutes, and the new line 4, from 5 September 2026, serves Karlsplatz, with connections to the U1, U2 and U4. We have not checked the onward route with Wiener Linien, and we did not read the fares: check them with ÖBB and Wiener Linien.

By car, access and accessibility

The MuseumsQuartier garage, in front of the entrance, is open 24 hours. There are four disabled parking spaces in the MuseumsQuartier, with the entrance on the Volkstheater side, and an outside lift at the back of the building, on the east side.
